Steps

1. Decide whether your photo is damaged or merely small. Damaged means soft, compressed, scanned, screenshotted or pulled from video. Merely small means sharp at the size it is. Measured on our own hardware, a degraded photo gained roughly 170% in face detail through repair — and an already-sharp photo lost 96%, because the face is redrawn at a fixed size and pasted back. If yours is sharp, use the upscaler instead.
2. Upload the original, not a re-export. Every save through a chat app or a social platform recompresses the picture. Whatever is closest to the source scan or camera file will restore better than the copy that has been through three apps.
3. Run it and read what it tells you. If no clear face is found, the photo comes back unchanged and the job says so, rather than handing you the same picture and leaving you to work out whether anything happened.
4. Compare at full size before you accept it. Look at the eyes, teeth and hairline at 100%. Reconstruction is plausible detail, not recovered detail, and fine features can shift.
5. Use the combined pass if it needs both. The Improve option runs face repair and a four-times upscale in one job, which is what a small damaged photo actually needs.

Tips

• Faces are the thing this rebuilds. Damaged backgrounds, torn corners and stains are not what it is for.
• A front-facing, unobstructed face restores best. Profiles, sunglasses and heavy shadow give the model less to work from.
• For an irreplaceable family photo, keep the original file. The repaired version is a new interpretation, not a better copy of the old one.

Limits worth knowing before you start

• It reconstructs rather than recovers. On a photo of someone you know well, expect to notice that a rebuilt face is slightly not them — that is the honest description of what a repair model does.
• Groups shot at a distance have faces too small to rebuild reliably. Crop to one person and repair that.
• Nothing is archival. Uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes, generated files are swept automatically after about a day, and the prompt text is blanked on the same schedule. Download what you want to keep — this is a workshop, not an archive.
• Adult content is absent from this product rather than switched off. There is no setting, plan, administrator action or support request that introduces it, on the site or on the API.

Questions

Will it invent a different face?

It rebuilds detail rather than replacing the person, but fine features can shift. For a photo that is small rather than damaged, upscaling is the more faithful choice.

What if there is no clear face?

Nothing happens and the job tells you so. Face restoration needs a reasonably front-facing, unobstructed face.

Can it repair and enlarge at once?
